3. Grade descriptions

A Grade A Cambridge IGCSE Spanish as a Foreign language candidate will be able to:

Listening:

• understand gist and identify main points and detail in texts drawn from a variety of contexts and topic areas • recognise points of view, attitudes and emotions and draw conclusions 
• show an ability to extract meaning from more complex language.

Reading:

• understand gist and identify main points and detail in texts drawn from a variety of contexts and topic areas • recognise points of view, attitudes and emotions and draw conclusions 
• show an ability to understand unfamiliar language and to extract meaning from more complex language.

Speaking:

• develop conversations and discussions and narrate events 
• express and justify ideas and opinions, and produce longer sequences of speech using a variety of vocabulary, structures and verb tenses • speak confidently with good pronunciation and intonation 
• ensure that their messages are clear, although there may still be some errors, especially when using more complex structures.

Writing: 

• give information and narrate events • express and justify ideas and opinions 
• use a range of vocabulary, structures and verbs/tenses 
• demonstrate generally accurate spelling and grammar 
• use style which is appropriate to purpose.
